Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Backpack donations for APS refugee and immigrant students

APS Welcome Center would like to thank Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc, Epsilon Nu Omega Chapter, Mu Omega Omega Chapter in Aurora, Iota Beta Omega Chapter in Colorado Springs, and Denver Sister Chapter for the generous donation of backpacks and school supplies to our refugee and immigrant students at Aurora Public Schools! The backpacks were handed over at the Colorado Chapters Cluster A meeting in October. We also appreciate United Nations Foundation Denver for their strong collaboration. Thanks to the leadership, generosity and compassion of AKA Sorority members, our students will be well-equipped when they begin their school in the United States and Aurora Public Schools!

Operation School Bell brought school clothes to APS families

Operation School Bell, a program provided by Assistance League Denver took place on October 8th at the nearby K-mart where APS families were provided a gift card to use towards school clothing for their students. The partnership between Assistance League Denver, APS Welcome Center, Sable Elementary, Boston K8, and Crawford Elementary and other volunteers made Operation School Bell a great success! “We witnessed the joy and happiness of our students and families, we watched their faces light up when they saw us and when we helped them make shopping choices for their children”, said one of the Family Liaisons assisting at the event. The following week parents were still calling to say thank you for this generous opportunity and for caring about them and their children, and for making a difference in their life. Thank you Assistance League Denver for bringing this wonderful project to benefit our families at Aurora Public Schools!
